IT GOVERNANCE INSTITUTE INTRODUCES NEW COBIT CURRICULUM FOR BUSINESS AND IT INSTRUCTORS

Rolling Meadows, IL, USA (13 January 2005)—The growing complexity of IT environments, increasing pressure to leverage technology value and recent legislation focusing on internal controls are changing the way IT is being taught at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In response, the IT Governance Institute (ITGI) has released COBIT in Academia to provide focused educational material on COBIT, the international IT governance and control framework. The material can be integrated into curricula for courses on information systems management, information security management, information systems auditing and accounting.


“COBIT has become the de facto standard for control over IT around the world,” said Erik Guldentops, advisor to ITGI and executive professor in the management school of the University of Antwerp, Belgium, where he teaches on the subjects of IT security and control, IT governance, and risk management. “By using COBIT in Academia, professors can help students get a head start on learning best practices that will better prepare them to enter the work force and add value for their employers.”

COBIT in Academia is available to academics as a complimentary download following a simple application at www.isaca.org/cobitinacademia, and includes:

• The Student Book, with details on the COBIT framework and how it can be applied
• COBIT Presentation Package, an 80-slide PowerPoint presentation that illustrates the core elements of the COBIT framework
• COBIT Case Study: TIBO©, which offers an extended case study, including student questions and extensive teaching notes so students can apply COBIT knowledge to a real situation
• COBIT Caselets, which provides three short case studies with teaching notes on COBIT applications in real-life situations to be used as a classroom exercise

Professors can use the complete set, make extractions to focus on specific aspects, or incorporate their own materials and examples with COBIT in Academia.
 
Also designed for university instructors, the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) Model Curriculum is available as a free download at http://www.isaca.org/modelcurricula.
